Food: Checcos Restaurant ♥

This was originally posted on my main blog in 2013*

I have decided to do a review for Checcos restaurant in Preston, Lancashire.

Checcos is a family run restaurant and is actually the second restaurant to be opened by the family, the first was opened 20 years ago and is still going strong. You also don't have to come and have a meal you are more than welcome to sample their yummy cocktails and have a seat with friends, which I think is lovely as a lot of restaurants you feel obligated to have a meal but here the bar is separate to the dining area.

We arrived at 7:15pm with our booking made for 7:30pm so we decided to sit down and have a drink first. It was packed! The website says its not always necessary to book but they advise to do so and I would to avoid disappointment as this is the second time I have visited this restaurant and both times it was very very busy!

We sat to have a drink and waited to be seated however at 7:35pm Alex decided to go and ask if our table was ready. It was and an apology was swiftly made as they didn't see us sat in the corner. We were led to a table in the corner (which is good for me as I don't like to be in the centre of everything) and we were handed menus.

A piece from their website explains the food well.
"The stylish eatery offers lots of traditional and contemporary Italian dishes. Diners can choose from pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes including ‘Mamma’s Polpette’, a meatball dish whose recipe has been handed down by grandma all the way from Trivento in southern Italy. Customers can also choose from large selection of specialist wines and Champagnes plus the famous Italian Peroni beer is on draught."

You are spoilt for choice! I can be a bit of a baby when it comes to trying new dishes as I always worry I will order something I've never tried before and hate it and then I've wasted a meal!

For starters I had the Calamari which was delicious! I only first tried this last year and now if I see it on the menu I will get it every time and this one didn't disappoint! I think you get plenty for a starter, enough to fill a hole in your tummy but not too much you think "Oh no I won't finish my main meal". The sauce wrapped in the lettuce is their homemade tartare sauce and I found it to be perfect.

We also ordered two garlic breads for the table (one tomato, one cheese) I didn't have chance to take a picture as everyone was starving and tucked in as soon as it reached the table but I can say the cheese one was amazing!

For my main I had Spaghetti Carbonara which is a first for me as I usually get Spaghetti Bolognese but I'm glad I tried this as it was so yummy! It was really creamy, every strand was covered in the sauce and it had big pieces of crispy bacon in it! Much nicer than little pieces of ham you usually get! I would recommend this if you like carbonara it really was lovely and although it doesn't look it on the picture it was a large portion and I couldn't quite finish it all!

The waitress came round to give us all a desert menu and although we looked and were very tempted we just couldn't fit in another bite!

The staff here are lovely and friendly, very polite and seemed very happy to help. I like this as I hate going somewhere and you can just tell the staff really don't want to be there!

Overall I will be going back here for another visit (And I WILL try something different next time!) and if you're in the area and fancy some delicious Italian food with a friendly service I would recommend popping in!
